Independent Stave Company and The Boswell Family Continue Alzheimer’s Funding
with Research and Chapter Donations Totaling $200,000

COLUMBIA, MO. (January 21, 2021) – In a continued effort to aid the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease, Independent Stave Company and The Boswell Family recently donated a total of $200,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association. The donation will be divided between the clinical trial “DIAN-TU Tau Next Generation” and local Alzheimer’s Association Chapters in Missouri and Kentucky.

DIAN-TU Tau Next Generation is a leading Alzheimer’s prevention study at Washington University that is testing a new class of experimental drugs in at-risk families. $150,000 of the total donation will be earmarked for the study. The Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network Trials Unit (DIAN-TU) is uniquely positioned to test new anti-tau drugs. One of the world’s leading Alzheimer’s prevention studies, DIAN-TU has been testing experimental anti-amyloid drugs in people who are living with dominantly inherited Alzheimer’s disease (DIAD) since 2014. Read more about the prevention study on the Alzheimer’s Association website.

“Our family continues to support Alzheimer’s research and individuals living with Alzheimer’s. We are hopeful that this prevention study and clinical trial will yield positive and impactful results for those with a family history of Alzheimer’s.” said Brad Boswell, fourth generation cooper and CEO of Independent Stave Company. “We also wanted to focus our support on those caring for individuals living with Alzheimer’s. We chose to donate to chapters where many of our employees live and work.”

The remaining $50,000 of the donation will be equally divided between The Greater Missouri Chapter and The Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. These chapters have continued to provide vital support to caregivers and those living with Alzheimer’s in their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Alzheimer’s is common. Over 50 million people are living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, worldwide,” said Amie Boswell Dewane, vice president of Independent Stave Company. “We encourage any ISCO employee and those in need of assistance to contact their local chapter or visit www.alz.org/greatermissouri or www.alz.org/kyin. They offer support groups, free online education programs, a 24/7 hotline at 800-272-3900, volunteer opportunities and many more incredible resources.”

Previous donations by Independent Stave Company and The Boswell Family funded two research studies at Washington University’s Knight Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research as well as the nonprofit with the highest impact in Alzheimer’s research worldwide. “In our role as the leading research convener, collaborator and coordinator, the Association is committed to accelerating global progress of new treatments, preventions and, ultimately, a cure,” said Jeanne Rattenbury, Director of Donor Communications for the Alzheimer's Association.
