Heinrich Cooperage Earns SFI® Chain of Custody Certification
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TANUNDA, SOUTH AUSTRALIA (July 24, 2025) — Cooperages 1912 Australia announced recently that Heinrich Cooperage, located in Tanunda, South Australia, has achieved certification to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) Chain of Custody Standard. This certification underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, environmental stewardship, and responsible sourcing throughout the barrel production process.
The Chain of Custody Standard covers the production of stave-quality sawn timber, spirit and wine barrels. All American oak barrels produced at Heinrich Cooperage are now officially SFI Chain of Custody certified.
“At Cooperages 1912 Australia, sustainability is a guiding principle,” said Mark Roberts, General Manager of Cooperages 1912 Australia. “Achieving SFI certification at our Heinrich Cooperage facility reflects our long-standing commitment to reducing our environmental impact while producing exceptional barrels for winemakers and distillers.”
Heinrich Cooperage worked closely with the company’s Sustainability Manager, Dominic Stelzer, who oversaw the processes required to attain certification. The certification provides third-party assurance that the wood used in Heinrich Cooperage’s barrels can be tracked throughout the production process, ensuring full transparency and responsible forest management.
