May is Yard and Garden Month

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) - As the weather turns warmer, Missourians head outside to plant gardens and beautify lawns. Not only are these activities enjoyable, they’re profitable for the state's economy.

To pay tribute to Missouri's nurseries, which grow a variety of plants, flowers, trees and shrubs, Gov. Bob Holden has proclaimed May as Yard and Garden Beautification Month in Missouri. Robert A. Johnson , Missouri Mulch director and director at large for the Missouri Landscape and Nursery Association, accepted the proclamation during a ceremony held in the governor’s Capitol office. Also attending the April 22 proclamation ceremony was Peter Hofherr (left), Jefferson City, director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture.
