An Inside Look at Our Poloyni Partnership

A recent visit to a stave mill in Slovakia afforded an inside look at our partnership with the Polonyi family. Július Polonyi, founder and president of the stave mill, has served as our Eastern European oak supplier for four years.

This year, we’ve taken the partnership a step further by developing and promoting a premium quality European oak barrel – the Boswell Polonyi. The barrel’s name represents the synergy between the two families. First, the Polonyi family harvests fine-grain oak from the mountainous forests of Slovakia, and carefully mills it to the highest standards. The Boswell family then applies four generations of coopering expertise to this consistent, high-quality wood source.

Július Polonyi recently attended a major Czech winemakers meeting as a presenter to introduce the new barrel and received excellent feedback: “elegant, aesthetic, modern, a perfect marriage between Slovakian oak and U.S. manufacturing.”
